What Squarespace Domains is
Squarespace acquired Google Domains in 2023 and migrated the customer base onto its own platform. The result is a calm, flat-priced registrar — one price at registration and renewal, WHOIS privacy included, a short curated TLD list and no upsell theatre. It is roughly double Cloudflare for the same .com, and the product exists to feed Squarespace's site builder rather than to compete on domain price.
Recent changes
- 2025-03-01Migrated Google Domains customers hit standard Squarespace pricing
The Google Domains book moved to Squarespace across 2023–24 at grandfathered rates. By early 2025 most of those registrations had renewed at Squarespace's standard flat pricing, which on a .com is roughly double what Google charged. Squarespace did not raise prices so much as stop honouring an acquired price list, and it drove a visible wave of transfers to Cloudflare and Porkbun.
- 2024-10-14Squarespace taken private by Permira
Permira completed its acquisition of Squarespace, moving one of the largest consumer domain books on this page into private-equity ownership. Ownership structure is not a feature, but in this category it has been a reliable leading indicator of renewal price rises and add-on packaging, which is why it is a scored column here.
