Namecheap built the modern discount-registrar playbook, steep first-year .com pricing, WHOIS privacy free for the life of the domain, and 24/7 chat support that is genuinely useful. The renewal is where the economics land, several times the promotional first year on .com. It also operates Spaceship as a separate, newer consumer brand, which complicates the question of where the company's attention is going.

**Verdict.** Perfectly fine and permanently mid-table: the first year is among the cheapest and the renewal among the dearer, so it only wins if you genuinely churn domains. The lifetime free privacy remains the best thing about it.

**Verdict.** The sandbox and the documentation are better than the API. Whole-zone DNS replacement, no auth-code retrieval and a mandatory IP allowlist make it a poor fit for anything on ephemeral compute, and the US$50 production gate catches teams late.
