# AWS Route 53 Domains

> SigV4 domain registration inside AWS, with no sandbox and hard throttling

Route 53's domain registration API is a normal AWS service: SigV4 auth, an IAM policy surface, CloudTrail coverage, and a service model you can generate a client from. Amazon Registrar is registrar of record for the common gTLDs and partners out the rest. It returns renewal prices via ListPrices and auth codes via RetrieveDomainAuthCode. There is no sandbox, availability checks take one name at a time, and throttling is aggressive.

**Verdict.** Worth it only because the domains land inside IAM, CloudTrail and your existing bill. As a registrar API it is slow, unbulkable, sandbox-free and mid-priced, with the narrowest TLD list of the serious options. Right for infrastructure domains, wrong for a customer-facing search box.
