Vercel shipped ephemeral microVM sandboxes callable from a Vercel app, initially capped at 45 minutes each and billed on the active-CPU model. The duration cap has since risen to 24 hours on paid plans, and the product has picked up persistence, snapshots, fork and an egress firewall.

Google shipped an Apache-2.0 terminal agent with a free tier unlocked by a personal Google account and no card. It reset the floor for what a coding agent costs, and became the base Qwen Code forked a month later.

Cloudflare shipped Containers in public beta with 10 ms billing granularity and Durable Objects as the control plane, followed by the Sandbox SDK that packages the pattern for running untrusted code from a Worker.

Cloudflare added container workloads that Workers can start and route to, closing the biggest gap in the platform: the inability to run anything needing a real Node process or a native dependency. A VECTOR column type with an approximate nearest-neighbour index reaches GA in a mainstream open-source relational engine, without an enterprise tier. Modal announced a Series B at a valuation around $1.1bn, funding continued work on container cold starts and GPU capacity. It is the best-capitalised of the agent-adjacent compute vendors on this page.

Through the first half of 2025 the Namecheap group pushed Spaceship as its primary consumer-facing brand, with the newest dashboard, the most aggressive first-year .com pricing and bundled mailbox trials. The older Namecheap product continues unchanged. The practical effect for buyers is two brands from one company with the same renewal economics and different interfaces.
