Postmark
Postmark is transactional-only sender with the best-policed shared IP pool in the category. We compare it in Email APIs. It is top of its roster on Shared pool quality (5). The trade-off is being 10th of 10 on Free tier (100 emails/mo).
What is Postmark?
Postmark — Transactional-only sender with the best-policed shared IP pool in the category. Postmark has spent fifteen years optimising for one thing: transactional mail arriving fast and landing in the inbox. It enforces a strict separation between transactional and broadcast message streams, vets accounts before enabling sending, and removes customers whose practices threaten the pool. It costs several times what its competitors do and keeps forty-five days of searchable activity, which is the trade it asks you to make. Built by ActiveCampaign. Founded 2010. Acquired (ActiveCampaign, 2022) raised.
We track it in 1 comparison — Email APIs — so every claim below is a cell in a table you can open and check rather than an impression. Across those rosters it sits against 12 other tools, and what follows is where it visibly separates from them.
Where it wins.
- Shared pool quality — 5, the best figure of the 13 here.
- React Email / MJML — mjml, handlebars, tied for best across 3 of 12 tools.
- Log retention — 64800 min, the best figure of the 9 here.
- BIMI — Yes, which only 3 of 11 tools here manage.
Each of those is ranked against the whole roster on its category page, not against a hand-picked subset, so a first place here means first of everything we list.
Where it gives ground.
- Free tier — 100 emails/mo, the weakest of the 10 here. Brevo records 9,000 emails/mo.
- Price / 1k emails — $1.5 /1k, 8th of 11. Amazon SES records $0.1 /1k.
- Data residency — us, 9th of 12. Amazon SES records us, eu, au, apac, sa, ca.
- Dedicated IP — $50 /mo, 5th of 7. Amazon SES records $24.95 /mo.
None of these disqualify it on their own. They are the fields to check against your own requirements before you commit, because they are the ones where a competitor genuinely does better.
Provenance. 23 of 25 tracked fields carry a value for Postmark, and 3 of those cite a document you can open. Last verified 2026-05-20. Every figure keeps its own provenance — measured by us, claimed by the vendor, inferred, or community-reported — and we would rather print a dash than a guess.
Its nearest neighbour in our data is AhaSend. Postmark is ahead on Hosted templates (visual-editor against none) and Shared pool quality (5 against 3). AhaSend takes GA year (2023 against 2010) and Pricing model (pay-as-you-go against volume-tiers). That pattern repeats across the rest of the roster — see Postmark alternatives for the other rivals, each compared the same way.

When to use Postmark
Postmark is the right call in these situations, each one drawn from a field we actually record:
- Password resets, receipts and anything a support ticket follows.
- Cold sending domains with no reputation to lean on.
- Teams who need 45 days of searchable history.
- Shared pool quality is your binding constraint. Postmark records 5, the best figure in the Email APIs roster. We define that field as judgement, 1–5, of the reputation you inherit on shared IPs.
- React Email / MJML is your binding constraint. Postmark records mjml, handlebars, the best figure in the Email APIs roster. We define that field as markup and templating systems with first-party support — a documented integration or native handling in the SDK.
- Log retention is your binding constraint. Postmark records 64800 min, the best figure in the Email APIs roster.
- BIMI is your binding constraint. Postmark records Yes, which only 3 of the 11 tools in the Email APIs roster do.
When not to use Postmark
Reach for something else when any of the following is a requirement rather than a nice-to-have:
- Free tier. Postmark records 100 emails/mo, the weakest of the 10 tools in the Email APIs roster. Brevo records 9,000 emails/mo on the same field. If that is a hard requirement rather than a preference, start elsewhere.
- Price / 1k emails. Postmark records $1.5 /1k, 8th of 11 in the Email APIs roster. Amazon SES records $0.1 /1k on the same field. If that is a hard requirement rather than a preference, start elsewhere.
- Data residency. Postmark records us, 9th of 12 in the Email APIs roster. Amazon SES records us, eu, au, apac, sa, ca on the same field. If that is a hard requirement rather than a preference, start elsewhere.
- Dedicated IP. Postmark records $50 /mo, 5th of 7 in the Email APIs roster. Amazon SES records $24.95 /mo on the same field. If that is a hard requirement rather than a preference, start elsewhere.
We publish this block because a comparison that only lists what a tool is good at is marketing. Every figure above sits on the same page as its source, and the field definitions are on the category tables if you want to check how we measured them.

- 2025-09-25 · incidentMalicious postmark-mcp npm package exfiltrated emailA third-party npm package impersonating an official Postmark MCP server was found silently BCC-ing every message it sent to an attacker-controlled address. Postmark did not publish the package. It is the cleanest available demonstration that an MCP server holding your sending credentials is a supply-chain dependency, and should be pinned and audited like one.
Sources and gaps
What we don't know. 2 of the 25 fields we track for Postmark are still blank: Throughput ceiling and llms.txt docs. Those render as dashes rather than as zeroes or assumptions, because an empty cell and a bad cell are not the same thing and only one of them is honest. If you know any of these figures and can point at a document, tell us.
